OUR VISION FOR PSHE AT CHERRY TREE HILL PRIMARY SCHOOL

By the time our children leave Cherry Tree, they will have the knowledge, skills and understanding they need to lead confident, healthy and independent lives. They will be able to make well informed healthy lifestyle choices and will know how to keep safe, which will support and impact on their positive relationship choices and mental well-being. Children will understand how they are developing personally and socially. They will have the understanding that through their learning journey in this subject they will learn how to tackle many of the moral, social and cultural issues they will face in the current world. Children will continue to build upon their resilence and determination to never give up and to celebrate their achievements at every step along the way.

OUR INTENT IS TO:

  • Support children in learning about how to lead confident, healthy independent lives
  • Encourage children to make well-informed choices that keep them safe both in and out of relationships
  • Have open discussions supporting children to think about their own development and how this can impact on world around them
  • Share our personal experiences and how this has impacted our character

HOW WE TEACH PSHE AT CHERRY TREE HILL

PSHE is the study of Personal, Social, and Health education. This includes the teaching of RSE (Relationship and Sex Education).  PSHE is taught through a range of assemblies, whole-class lessons and circle time.

We follow the  JIGSAW scheme of work that is based on the National Curriculum. At Cherry Tree, we teach PSHE and RSE through Jigsaw. Jigsaw is a spiral curriculum that teaches the same 6 topics each half term to each year group. This is taught with a character focus that stays with the children for the year and leads lessons.

Our PSHE and RSE Policies clearly outline how we teach PSHE and RSE at Cherry Tree Hill, please find them attached:
